Presented here is an outstanding Philadelphia Phillies home jersey worn by Ralph "Putsy" Caballero in 1952, accompanied by a pair of Philadelphia Phillies home pants worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Robin Roberts in 1960. What these two items have in common is the fact that both have been consigned to this auction directly by "Putsy" Caballero, who will forever be immortalized as a member of the famous 1950 "Whiz Kids." The white pinstripe flannel jersey features the team name, "Phillies," across the front and the number "3" on the reverse. Both the team name and number are embroidered in red. The player's name and year ("Caballero - 52") are chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. Situated on the left breast are a "Wilson" label, a "42" size tag, and a laundry tag. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate-to-heavy wear including a number of dark stains (primarily along the shoulder, collar, and back) and the loss of one of the front buttons. Putsy Caballero personally kept this jersey as a souvenir of his playing days. Graded A6.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 3 points deducted for the staining and a half-point deducted for the missing button). This is one of only four 1950s Philadelphia Phillies jerseys listed in the MEARS population report. 1952 was "Putsy" Caballero's final season in the Majors. Accompanying the jersey are a pair of Robin Roberts white pinstripe flannel pants that feature the player's name and year ("R. Roberts 1960") chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the waistband. Also located in the waistband are a "Wilson" label and a laundry tag. The pants are completely original, with no alterations, and display moderate-to-heavy wear including significant staining along the front and reverse. The pants have been evaluated by MEARS and are deemed "Authentic" (MEARS doesn't grade pants). 1960 was Robin Roberts' second to last season with the Phillies. He finished the year with a 12-16 record and a 4.03 ERA. Roberts eventually retired in 1966 with 286 wins. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1976. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Total: 2 items (jersey and pants). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $4,112.50
