This specially produced H&B presentation bat, measuring an impressive 38.75 inches in length and weighing a whopping 42.9 ounces, is an exact replica of a Rogers Hornsby signature model bat dating from the 1934-1944 manufacturing period. While the history of this bat remains a mystery, it appears to have been a gift to baseball commissioner Albert "Happy" Chandler based upon the special barrel stamping that reads "You Know Yo' Stuff - From Don To Happy." Chandler succeeded Landis as Baseball Commissioner in 1945 and this bat may have been one of a number of special presentation gifts given to him by friends upon his election to that prominent office. Other examples of similar oversized H&B presentation bats are known in the hobby, all of which were originally produced for baseball dignitaries or prominent players. Even without additional information, this is fascinating bat, a spectacular display piece, and an interesting conversation piece as well. Perhaps additional research in the future will allow its history to be unlocked with certainty.
