This specially produced H&B presentation bat, measuring an impressive 38.75 inches in length and weighing a whopping 42.9 ounces, is an exact replica of a Rogers Hornsby signature model bat dating from the 1934-1944 manufacturing period. While the history of this bat remains a mystery, it appears to have been a gift to baseball commissioner Albert "Happy" Chandler based upon the special barrel stamping that reads "You Know Yo' Stuff - From Don To Happy." Chandler succeeded Landis as Baseball Commissioner in 1945 and this bat may have been one of a number of special presentation gifts given to him by friends upon his election to that prominent office. Other examples of similar oversized H&B presentation bats are known in the hobby, all of which were originally produced for baseball dignitaries or prominent players. Even without additional information, this is fascinating bat, a spectacular display piece, and an interesting conversation piece as well. Perhaps additional research in the future will allow its history to be unlocked with certainty. The bat displays moderate surface wear, including a few minor abrasions, nicks, and scratches, and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $705.00
