Collection of seventeen 8 x 10-inch color photos, each signed in black Sharpie on the front by Joe DiMaggio. These photos have a unique and extraordinary provenance in that they originate directly from one of DiMaggio's earliest and most important card show appearances, held in 1982 at the Armenian Church in New York City. These photos were personally signed for the promoter of this historic show, our consignor, and were put aside by him at that time as personal keepsakes of the show. The great success and positive reception of this show played a significant role in launching the entire era of stars signing at shows, as well as DiMaggio's career signing autographs. Included with the seventeen signed photographs is a copy of the original advertising flyer for the show, picturing both Joe DiMaggio and Stan Musial (the other signer at the show), as well as a copy of the mail-in autograph request form. In a true sign of the times, the combined price of a ticket to the show and a DiMaggio autograph was only $8.00 (Joe is probably still turning over in his grave over that deal). All of the photos capture DiMaggio in uniform at an unspecified Old-Timers' Day Game, but in two different poses. Ten of the photos are identical and picture DiMaggio in extreme close-up as he sits in the dugout. The other seven identical photos picture DiMaggio standing on the field during the ceremonies. The signatures all grade "9" or "10" and the photos are in overall Near Mint condition. This is an outstanding collection of DiMaggio signed photos dating from the dawn of the hobby"™s "explosion" during the 1980s. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 17 photos. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,997.50
