Please Note: The orginal catalog description for this lot contains a typographical error. Clemens originally wore number "12" not "19" when joining the Yankees in 1999. New York Yankees road jersey worn by future Hall of Fame pitcher Roger Clemens during the club's 1999 World Championship season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This jersey originates directly from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles, the official collectibles company of the New York Yankees, which exclusively markets all authentic game-used Yankees jerseys, and is accompanied by an LOA from the company attesting to its game-used status. The gray knit jersey is lettered "New York" across the front and features the number "12" on the reverse. All letters and numerals have been appliquéd in navy on white tackle twill. A black number "5," in memory of Joe DiMaggio (he passed away on March 8, 1999), appears on the left sleeve. Located on the left front tail are a "Russell Athletic 52" label, an adjacent year tag reading "Rocket 99," a tag that reads "2 inch Extra Length," and another tag below that reads "-1 inch Sleeve Length." Aside from the customized sleeves, the jersey is completely original, with no other alterations, and displays light wear throughout. This is an extremely rare Roger Clemens jersey dating from his first three months with the Yankees. Many people forget that when Roger Clemens joined the Yankees in 1999 he originally wore number 19. It wasn't until Tony Tarasco (who wore number 22) was released by the Yankees in June 1999 that Clemens then switched to number 22, which he wore for the remainder of his five-year tenure with the club. In those five seasons Clemens lead the club to four pennants and two World Championships. "The Rocket" fashioned a 14-10 record in 1999 and capped off his debut season in pinstripes by defeating the Braves 4-1 in Game 4 of the World Series. Graded A10 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 5 points for provenance). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and also from Yankees-Steiner Collectibles attesting to its authenticity and game-used provenance. All authentic game-used modern-era Yankee jerseys originate directly from Steiner. This one of only four A10 Roger Clemens jerseys listed in the MEARS population report. Reserve $1,000.
