Oakland A"™s home flannel jersey worn by Felipe Alou in 1970. The white vest-style flannel jersey is lettered "A"™s" on the left breast and features the number "8" on the right breast and reverse. "Alou" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. Located on the left front tail are a "McAuliffe" label, a "44" size tag and a "70" year tag. Aside from the name on the reverse having been properly restored, the jersey is completely original with no other alterations. Moderate wear is displayed throughout. This is a scarce jersey style and one that was employed by the club only for the three-year period spanning 1969 to 1971. The eldest of the three Alou brothers, Felipe holds the distinction of becoming the first Dominican ever to play regularly in the Major Leagues. A three-time All-Star, Alou batted .271 with eight home runs and fifty-five RBI in 1970. Felipe Alou is the most prominent member of one of baseball's most notable families. His younger brothers Matty and Jesús were both longtime National League outfielders, and his son Moisés is a current Major Leaguer and star in his own right. Felipe Alou finished his seventeen-year career (1958-74) with a lifetime .286 average, and later went on to become the winningest manager in Expos history (1992-2001) before joining the Giants as manager from 2003 to 2006. Few players have had such a long, successful, and significant career, literally spanning generations.
