Presented is an original Burris Jenkins artwork of Joe DiMaggio that is accompanied by an inscription (penned on the matting) to Barry Halper by the famed "Yankee Clipper." The cartoon features DiMaggio riding aloft a baseball that has been batted out of Yankee Stadium. The ball is lettered "Joe D-Day" and is shown leaving a trail of coins and money in its wake. The text below reads "Contributions for Charity," while the old man hitting the ball echoes Mel Allen"™s pet phrase "How a-bout that!!" It is signed by Jenkins in the upper right. When Joe (whose charitable ways during his later years were less than obvious) was asked by Barry to sign this piece, he jokingly inscribed the matting "Barry "“ When the I.R.S. decides to audit me I"™ll send them to you "“ and you can tell them where all my money went. Your Friend "“ Joe DiMaggio 5/29/87." Both DiMaggio"™s inscription and signature are scripted in blue fine-point marker and grade "10." The artwork, rendered on artist"™s board, has been irregularly matted (most likely to cover some unseen flaws) and displays a horizontal crease along the central portion of the piece. Despite the condition anomalies the artwork presents as Excellent and makes for an extremely attractive and unique wall display. The approximate size of the artwork is 19 x 22 inches.
