Circa 1936 black-and-white movie studio publicity photo of Groucho Marx, sporting both his trademark cigar and greasepaint mustache, signed by the legendary comedian in red ink. Groucho has personalized the piece " To Bill Powers from Groucho Marx. " He has also added a humorous inscription above the red-ink salutation that reads " Everything in Paramount is in the Red - " A Paramount production number appears in the lower right. Paramount, of course, was the studio that produced five of the Marx Brothers' most famous films during the 1930s, including Duck Soup , Horse Feathers and Animal Crackers . It is interesting to note that Groucho originally misspelled the last name of the recipient (writing "Powell") and then corrected the error in slightly bolder ink. Both the inscription and signature are virtually flawless, grading "9/10." Groucho signed publicity photos from the 1930s are particularly rare. The photograph (8 x 10.25 inches) is bright and clean, with a couple of small corner creases, otherwise in Excellent condition. LOA from Steve Grad/PSA DNA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
