The signature of George Washington (first President, 1732-99) highlights this framed presidential signature collection of seven. George Washington signatures are extremely desirable and far rarer than that of other presidents. This cut is a particularly outstanding and relatively affordable example (compared to a Washington signature on a complete document or letter) and is ideal for display. Joining Washington within this carefully assembled collection are the signatures of John Quincy Adams (sixth President, 1767-1848), James Buchanan (fifteenth President, 1791-1868), Andrew Johnson (seventeenth President, 1808-75), James Garfield (twentieth President, 1831-81), Grover Cleveland (twenty-second President, 1837-1908) and Teddy Roosevelt (twenty-sixth President, 1858-1919). All of the signatures have been penned in black ink and range in grade from "8" to "10" with the exception of Garfield ("6") and Johnson ("7"). Washington's signature ("8") has been taken from a letter, with a miniscule portion along the base of both the "s" and "g" in "Washington" having been clipped during the removal (not affecting the aesthetic quality). The signature has been taken from a letter and the cut includes several closing words of salutation in Washington's hand above the signature ( "Most obedient & Very Humbled" ). Both the Cleveland and Roosevelt signatures appear on official White House letterhead; the Buchanan signature is in the form of a free frank; the remainder are in the form of cuts. All of the cuts are in Excellent condition overall and have been attractively matted together with a likenesses of each respective President. The Washington and Adams cuts have been matted and framed individually (10.75 x 15.5 inches and 12 x 15.5 inches, respectively), while the remainder are presented together in a handsome framed display (24 x 24 inches). LOA from Steve Grad & John Reznikoff/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $5,220.00
