Collection of Football Player Signed Checks (32)

Collection of checks signed, respectively, by thirty-two different former NFL stars, including twenty-seven Hall of Famers. Unless otherwise noted, all of the checks are personal checks (some include the preprinted name of a spouse as well) and have been signed in either blue or black ink (all signatures grading "9" to "10"). Listed here are the twenty-seven Hall of Fame players represented, along with the date for each check: Herb Adderley (2/12/82), Doug Atkins (5/23/73), Sammy Baugh (2/4/61, bank check), Chuck Bednarik (12/9/86), Bert Bell (5/9/41, Philadelphia Eagles team check made out to kicker "George Somers"), Roosevelt Brown (3/4/97), Willie Brown (5/30/90), Tony Canadeo (2/28/85), Mike Ditka (12/16/85, made out to the "Chicago Bears" in the amount of $110.16, with the note at the bottom reading for "Champaign"), Bill Dudley (2/23/81), Weeb Ewbank (10/7/91), Paul Hornung (6/6/92), Yale Lary (12/29/83), Dante Lavelli (12/13/83), Vince Lombardi (8/4/59, Green Bay Packers team check made out to "Fairmont Foods Company"), George McAfee (5/31/89), Ron Mix (7/31/91), Lenny Moore (8/8/96), Bronko Nagurski (11/30/81), Ray Nitschke (5/30/78, cancellation stamps touch upon the signature), Jim Parker (8/1/02), Ernie Stautner (6/21/93), Ken Strong (8/2/62), Charley Trippi (4/1/89), Clyde Turner (9/10/53, bank check), Steve Van Buren (5/29/90, made out to "Cash" and endorsed by Van Buren on the reverse), and Bob Waterfield (12/26/72). The five non - Hall of Fame players included here are as follows: Don Joyce (8/9/93), Billy Pricer (12/13/93), Clark Shaughnessy (4/26/52, bank check), Bubba Smith (5/11/83), and Dick Szymanski (9/26/97). Twenty-seven checks measure approximately 6 x 2.75 inches, while the remaining five are larger-format checks, averaging 8.75 x 3 inches. All display normal bank cancellation stamps and/or holes. Approximately 25% of the checks display either one or two vertical folds, as is often the case with checks; they otherwise range in grade from Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt condition.
