Incredible collection of nineteen different 1932 New York Giants ticket office schedule postcards, each featuring on-the-field action poses of Giants players, with the player's 1931 statistics and advertising for "Ladies Admitted Free Every Friday" at the Polo Grounds below, and with the Giants 1932 "Games At Home" schedule on the reverse. These postcards were published just prior to the 1932 baseball season for distribution by the Giants ticket office. Twenty subjects are checklisted in The Standard Catalog. In this collection are two new checklist additions: Clarence Mitchell and Freddie Lindstrom. One of the most interesting aspects of this set is that every card in the set is incredibly rare, with the exception of Carl Hubbell. Hubbell is actually very common, and were it not for the many hundreds of Carl Hubbell cards from this set in collector's hands, collectors would be almost entirely unfamiliar with this issue. We don't know if the Giants decided to print a lot of Hubbells for more extensive distribution, or if perhaps an entire print run was somehow found intact, but from the earliest days of organized collecting, Hubbell has always been readily obtainable. Exactly the opposite is the case for all other players in the set. In fact, we think this may be the first time we have ever had even a single "non-Hubbell" 1932 Giants schedule card in our auction. It is interesting to note that Hubbell is known printed on two different paper stocks, one thick, and one thin (an example of both of which are included in this collection). We think the "thin stock" Hubbell is a reproduction, possibly of the period. Of greater significance, the stock on which all of the other players are printed is much thicker and in all ways far superior to that of the "thick-stock Hubbell." Though the better of the two Hubbell "variations," the thick-stock Hubbell itself is printed on relatively cheap stock which is always very browned, so much so that the photo appears sepia. The non-Hubbell cards, on far superior high-quality stock, are pure black and white. Our theory that the Giants printed much larger quantities of Hubbell for more extensive distribution is supported by the fact that Hubbell is not known to exist printed on the same higher-quality stock of the other players. This collection includes eighteen of the twenty-two known different players (plus the extra "thin-stock Hubbell") for a total of nineteen different. The collection is comprised of the following: Allen, Bell, Critz, Fullis, Gibson, Healey, Hogan, Hubbell (2), Jackson, Koenecke, Leslie, Lindstrom, Luque, Mitchell, Mooney, Parmelee, Vergez, and Walker. The postcards range from Very Good to Excellent condition. This is an extraordinary collection of these very rare regionally issued 1932 New York Giants ticket office postcards. "Minden Press, Inc., N. Y." appears on the reverse of each card. All are unmailed. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches each. Total 19 postcards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $4,930.00
