Rawlings Mac 25 model bat, manufactured specifically for McGwire's use during the 1998 season, features McGwire's full name on the barrel in block letters. The bat shows evidence of significant game use. Mark McGwire was named Rookie of the Year in 1987, after a spectacular first season performance that included setting a rookie record of 49 home runs. As his career progressed, it soon became obvious that McGwire was destined to become one of baseball's all time great power hitters. All doubts were laid to rest when he shattered Roger Maris' single season record in 1998, hitting an unbelievable 70 home runs. This bat dates from that most extraordinary landmark season. Although McGwire's record has since been broken, the legend of the 1998 home run race will always be remembered for capturing the attention of the nation, and for its role in bringing baseball back to its glory as America's National Pastime. Uncracked. Length: 34.5 inches. Weight: 33 ounces. SCD Authentic Grade: A7. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Dan Knoll/SCD Authentic and John Taube & Vince Malta/PSA DNA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,587.50
