Collection of 42 different of the 50 cards comprising the N162 Goodwin Champions set, representing a complete set minus the eight baseball players in the set. N162 Goodwin Champions are considered by many to be the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. Two of the cards have been graded and encapsulated by PSA, including Buffalo Bill (EX-MT 6) and Beecher (VG-EX 4). Beecher has a great significance to collectors, as this is recognized as the very first football card. The remaining 40 cards grade as follows: 10 Ex-Mt, 14 Ex (including Kilrain), 13 Vg-Ex (including Sullivan and Dempsey), and two in lesser condition. 25 of the cards have stamp hinges attached to the reverse and the listed grades are without reference to this detail. These very small transparent stamp hinges do not interfere with the reverse text, and they can definitely be removed by a professional if desired without causing any damage to the cards. This is a very attractive collection with exceptional eye appeal. A rare opportunity to acquire a complete set of all 42 non-baseball players from this extremely desirable nineteenth- century issue. Total 42 cards. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $3,000/$5,000. SOLD FOR $9,200.00
