Original photo of Boston Red Sox pitcher Joe Wood, circa 1909. Encapsulated and certified as an original Type I photograph by PSA/DNA. The close-up image pictures Wood as he gazes directly into the camera. A stamp on the reverse reads "Filed Before June 1919." Wood's' name is also written in pencil on the reverse. Wood joined the Red Sox in 1908, but the uniform style shown here was worn by the club only between the years 1909 and 1910 during Wood's eight-year tenure with Boston. This is an extremely early photo of Wood, who would later win 34 games in 1912, which helped lead Boston to its first of four World Championships during the decade. The photo (3.5 x 5 inches) displays a rough left border and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
