Magnificent 24-card uncut sheet of R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War." These cards are from the most famous set of war-related trading cards ever issued, and one of the most popular and sought after of all nonsport card sets. The set is unequaled in its colorful, detailed artwork and gruesome graphics. The reverse text, though historically factual, is filled with antifascist propaganda of the times. Historically significant and noteworthy, the "Horrors of War" set created an unprecedented stir when issued to children in the late 1930s, which still resonates with collectors to this day. Featuring cards #27-48, this sheet shows some light rounding to the corners and minor wrinkling on cards #31 and 42, but otherwise remains in Excellent or better condition. All 1930s uncut sheets are extremely rare. This is one of three "Horrors of War" uncut sheets available in this auction and represents the first time that we have offered any sheets from this very popular and highly collectible issue. The sheet measures 18-3/4 x 10 inches and has been very professionally and expensively double-side matted and framed (so both the front and back can be viewed) to dimensions of 28 x 19-1/2 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $2,666.25
