Pair of original artworks from the 1965 Topps "Monster Greeting Cards" set illustrated by famed cartoon artist Robert Crumb. Some of Crumb's earliest work, of course, was for Topps in the mid-1960s, and these are rarely seen prime examples. The "Monster Greeting Cards" set featured a comic-like illustration on the front with a monster-related punchline on the back. The offered artworks are for two different cards, each representing the card front. Card #47 "Congratulations! You Have Only One Cavity!" when published was opposite an illustration of a monster with the caption "In Your Head!" Card #19 "I Love You Because..." varies slightly from the card title found in price guides ("I Love You Because You're Different!") and when published was opposite an illustration of a monster with the caption "Ugh! So Different!" Each artwork is executed in black and white on thin artist's board which is affixed by means of tape to a single larger board measuring 8-3/8 by 10-1/4 inches. Production-related pencil notations are found in the margin of the individual artworks and the larger artist board. The blank reverse shows some stray ink marks and a strip of vintage tape. This is an outstanding pair of original artworks from this mid-1960s Topps nonsport issue illustrated by legendary artist Robert Crumb. Total: 2 artworks. Reserve $400. Estimate (open).
